Jeff grew up in Milwaukee and graduated from the University School of Milwaukee. After studying sociology and business at Miami University, Jeff found himself back in his hometown at the beginning of the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression.

While working in the service industry, Jeff bought his first rental property in 2009 where he acted as the general contractor and self-performed much of the project.

Months later, he started his second rental property renovation, where he employed LaBonte Construction as a finish carpentry subcontractor. Little did he know at the time but, five years later, he would acquire that small finish carpentry firm.

Having renovated around two hundred apartments, redeveloped for resale multiple single family homes, and operated a design-build firm, Jeff purchased LaBonte Construction in May of 2014. His plan was to transform a two-man shop with a passion for craftsmanship to Milwaukee’s premier general contracting firm taking on complex projects with heirloom quality results.

Jeff serves on the board of Friends of Villa Terrace, sharing his expertise on historic preservation for one of Milwaukee’s most iconic mansions.

Jeff specializes in business development, contract negotiation, vendor relations, historic home preservation, construction science, and makes his best attempts at marketing (“like us” on Facebook!).  With a belief that quality and satisfied customers are our best marketing, he makes sure the company lives up to our motto, “Home is in the details.”

After serving his carpentry apprenticeship working on some of Milwaukee’s largest projects, Dave became a journeyman carpenter and was promoted to a foreman.

In 2006 Dave founded LaBonte Construction to work closely with homeowners on smaller projects, where he felt his attention to detail and customer service would differentiate him from the pack.

With a carpenter’s assistant, Dave continued to grow the company every year, specializing in kitchens, baths, complex finish carpentry, and additions. LaBonte Construction was rated #1 on Angie’s List, and its dedicated customer base allowed the company to thrive while many others went out of business.

In 2014, Dave decided to sell the company with plans to move to Florida. Fortunately for the firm, those plans did not come to fruition.

Dave ended up staying on in a full-time capacity in addition to receiving his associate’s degree in Business Management on nights and weekends.

At the encouragement of Jeff, Dave retired his tools so that he could focus all of his energy on project management and quality control for larger, more complicated projects. Dave now supervises a team of project managers and carpenters and is the backbone of our field operations.
